Prescription & NON-Prescription Medications:
- New York State Law requires a written healthcare provider order for prescription and non-prescription medications. If applicable, a healthcare providers order is also needed for attestation that the student has demonstrated they can self-administer the medication effectively, or if the medication is needed rapidly, which will require the student to carry it with them at all times.
- Written parent/guardian consent, and
- The medication must be brought to the school by an adult. The medications must be in their original labeled prescription and/or over-the-counter bottle/packaging. Any special supplies/equipment for the nurse to administer the medication must also be provided to the school.
- There are certain medications that can be given during the school day without a doctor's order. You can find those listed on the attached link to the right. Anything that is not listed needs to have a physician's order AND parent consent. These medications include Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cold medicine, Benadryl, etc.
