Welcome to Resource Room

The 8th grade resource room program is designed around the needs of each student, with each IEP goal and specific disability area focused on. Students will have the opportunity to work on skills necessary for success in the 8th grade curriculums, learn and use study skills and receive organizational help.

Here are a few things that I feel are important when teaching resource room:

- As the resource room/special education teacher working with your child, I am considered the case manager for your child. If there is something you feel we are not addressing on the IEP or if something isn’t working, please contact me. I like to be proactive and address problems before they arise, if possible.

- It is not acceptable for a student to do nothing during resource room time. Even though homework will not be done on a daily basis during resource room, students still need to bring something to do when we are finished with our work, whether it is homework or an outside reading book.

- I appreciate e-mails or phone calls from parents if you see your student struggling with a specific concept, want ideas of how to help at home, or just have a question or concern. Please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me at 988-5036 or [email protected]. E-mail works very well for me as I may not be free until the end of the day to return your call, but I can usually check my e-mail many times during the day. I would love if you could include an email address below so I can contact you if the need arises. I check my email at night as well, so if you run into something on homework at night, please feel free to shoot me an email.

- I only have a few rules in my classroom that I expect all students to follow:

o Respect each other, including the teacher and aide

o Come prepared to do work, bringing all materials needed for the period

o Don’t hesitate to ask questions!

o Write in agendas daily…they will be checked!

I look forward to working with you and your child this year. As I said above, please don’t hesitate to contact me with a question or concern.
