This week we are sharing the USDA’s MyPlate project. The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) was established in 1994 to improve the nutrition and well-being of Americans. Toward this goal, CNPP focuses its efforts on two primary objectives: 1. Advance and promote dietary guidance for all Americans, and 2. Conduct applied research and analyses in nutrition and consumer economics.MyPlate is one of CNPP's core projects to support its objectives. You will find printable tip sheets, videos, meal planning, recipes and many more resources on the MyPlate website. There is information geared to all age groups, including kids, teens, and young adults. Check out this link to the USDA’s current Dietary Guidelines for Americans.Start Simple with MyPlateThe benefits of healthy eating add up over time, bite by bite. Small changes matter. A healthy eating routine is important at every stage of life and can have positive effects that add up over time. It’s important to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy and fortified soy alternatives. When deciding what to eat or drink, choose options that are full of nutrients. Make every bite count. Download the Start Simple with MyPlate mini-poster in English or Spanish. We hope you will have fun exploring MyPlate!

We are proudly taking part in New York Thursday, a New York State Farm to School initiative! NY Thursday meals are cooked from scratch in each district’s kitchen using seasonal foods that are grown, harvested and/or produced in state. We will be offering the meals on the third Thursday of every month. Students will have the opportunity to taste test NY Thursday menu items and vote on whether or not to have it on future menus. This Farm to School program supports local farms, provides fresh and healthy lunches to students, and broadens students’ understanding of local food systems. This program is made possible by Food and Health Network, DCMO BOCES Food Service Management team, the Sidney Farm to School Program, and of course, New York State farms.
