PTO Reminders:

Have you returned the pink volunteer sheet yet? If not, please do so as soon as possible. We have many activities for the students throughout the year and volunteers are always needed (and appreciated)!

This is a Parent Teacher Organization and we need more parent volunteers to make the group successful! Thank you for all your support. We can't wait to see you there!
Postings from our Principal
After school homework room
We now offer an afterschool homework room for students in grades 3-5 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please call school for more information.
From the Cafeteria
Students are no longer able to charge their lunch. If a student does forget their lunch money one day they are able to charge for that day only. If they forget their lunch money the next day, they will be served a peanut butter and jelly sandwich along with a carton of milk. The district cannot “loan” to individual families. Students will also not be able to purchase “extras” (ice cream, cookies, etc.) if they owe money on their account.
Visit the Library Webpage
You can now access our library's catalog online at OPALS
You can search and see what kind of books we have in the library. Students can also access websites for research by clicking on "Web Links" on the OPALS home page.

Reorganization Committee
The Board of Education is exploring the idea of school reorganization. They are forming a committee to facilitate this idea. The first meeting will be on Monday, February 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Board room at the High School. Not only are we interested in exploring the concept we would also like to assess the community’s opinion about this idea. All district residents and staff members are invited to attend. We look forward to a large representative turnout. Questions can be addressed to Superintendent Charles Molloy at (607) 988-5038.
STUDENT DROP-OFF
Parents-When dropping off children in the morning, please let them off in front of the school, not in the parking lot. We are having congestion issues with cars making it difficult for busses to enter and exit. Thank you!
Substitutes
Substitute aids and nurses are very much in need at Otego and across the district! If you know someone who would like to substitute as an aide or as a school nurse please encourage them to pick up an application from the main office.
Unadilla Game Farm
Make sure to visit the Unadilla Game Farm to see the brand new Cougar named Montana. Montana is a six year old male rescue cougar from the state of Montana. Visit them on the web at www.unadillagamefarm.com

Fire Safety Day
A "HUGE" thank you to the Otego Fire Department for presenting "Fire Safety Day" to our Otego students.
Student Attendance Day
There IS school for students on February 1 and 16th!
We learn about bullying!
Otego Elementary was proud to have Steve Carrier for an assembly on Friday, January 8th. Mr. Carrier talked to students in grades 1-5 about bullying, making good choices, and surrounding yourself with positive people. Mr. Carrier has been featured on ESPN, “Ripley’s Believe it or Not,” “America’s got Talent” and is in the Guinness Book of World Records for breaking 30 baseball bats in 53 seconds!! Mr. Carrier lives in Dallas, Texas and travels the country doing assemblies for schools. The staff and students loved seeing him roll up frying pans, crush cans of soda, and rip phone books. But more importantly…the students left the assembly with a positive message.
