    MRSA 2018

    Dear parent or guardian,

Yesterday, we were informed that one of our high school students has been diagnosed with a confirmed MRSA infection. We were also informed that a second high school student has an infection which is suspected of being MRSA and is being treated as such, but has not been confirmed. In both cases, their personal care physician has cleared them to be in school and to participate in interscholastic athletics, providing they follow their physician’s instructions.

We have been in contact with the Otsego County Department of Public Health and our School Medical Officer (Bassett Healthcare) and taken all the steps they advise, including disinfecting and sanitizing our locker room, floors, and shower area. As the gym lockers are being emptied of personal belongings today, the entire locker room area, including lockers, will be cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized again tomorrow morning.

Based on the information provided to the school, we are taking all precautions necessary to prevent any further infections. We are sending this notice, which is not required by any law or policy, to inform you of the facts and that we are taking the steps recommended by medical professionals.

From the Otego Elementary School Repurposing Committee:

This survey is being conducted by the Otego School Re-purposing Committee. Their mission is to research and collect data, obtain information and community input, seek out proven and existing examples of, and find viable options for, the Re-Purposing of the Otego Elementary School. Such information will be forwarded to the Unatego Board of Education to help facilitate a Request for Proposal (RFP) to solicit prospective buyers.

YOUR INPUT IS IMPORTANT! Please take a moment to complete the survey and share your thoughts about the future of the building. However, please note that the outcome will depend on many factors including interest in the building. The Board of Education will consider the committee's recommendations when reviewing any proposals received to make a final determination about the future of the building. If you have any questions, please contact the Committee Chair at
